BLAKISTON'S FISH OWL: Both the largest & most endangered owl in the world, there are thought to be fewer than 1,000 pairs left in the world. Elusive & non-migratory, it is endemic to northeast Asia, & requires riparian forest w/ cavernous old-growth tree cavities for suitable nest sites & stretches of productive rivers that remain at least partially unfrozen in winter to maintain their fish based diet. It has a wingspan of 6' foot, & can be up to 3 feet tall.
